I was prompted to design a publication to explain how something is made. As a response, I made this booklet named after the general chemical formula of soap, which describes the processes of soap production on an industrial scale and at home by hand.
This is the first book that I made from research to production, and I thoroughly enjoyed making intentional decisions during every aspect: choosing Dos-a-dos binding to represent the twofold process of making soap by machine and by hand; using pink as a highlight colour, retro typefaces, and hand-drawn illustrations to resemble vintage soap packages; printing on speckletone cardstock as the cover and solid paperstock for inner pages, to invoke the idea of cleaning impurities; and finishing everything with a pink and white cotton thread.
